About Us
The Perinton Food Shelf exists entirely on donated food and monetary donations. This support comes from area churches, schools, organizations, and community-minded individuals. Donations are brought in weekly from the churches; different organizations and community groups conduct food drives throughout the year. In addition, the Food Shelf receives 25% of the contributions from the annual Walk for Hunger (CROP Walk), held in Fairport in the spring.
The Perinton Food Shelf also promotes the Sunday Dinner Program sponsored by the Perinton Lay Clergy Council. The Sunday Dinner Program provides a Sunday meal and the opportunity for socializing for those in need in Fairport and Perinton. An invitation to participate in the program is included with every Food Shelf delivery.
The facility where the food shelf is located is owned by Perinton Food Shelf, Inc. Pictured above is a view of shelving where food is stored. On the right, the photo shows the sorting area where incoming donations are organized before being moved to the shelves. All shelving was donated or constructed by volunteers or local community organizations. Also, the Perinton Food Shelf has four freezers where meat, bread and baked goods are stored.
The Perinton Food Shelf is staffed and operated by over 100 volunteers who maintain the facility and gather, sort, organize, and distribute food to those in need.
Through the generosity of the community, for the five (5) years ending in 2007, the Perinton Food Shelf served an average of 350 families or 1,076 persons yearly.
